Howard Piggott’s themes explored in this exhibition are “Hello blossom”, “Out of the fire” and “Catch and cook”.
“Hello blossom” is a new theme with the joyous burst of colourful Australian flowers with compositions similar to improvisation of jazz music.
“Out of the fire” are new works from the popular series of acrylic paintings on canvas and recycled hardwoods that are based on the remarkable capacity of Australian plants to propagate and regenerate through fire, cool burns and smoke.
“Catch and cook” also new works from the first series follow the journey of seafood from the ocean to the plate. Bon apetite!

Digital prints and paintings reflect an interest in the local environment and some of the changes we are experiencing. Life and art..... always changing, always learning.
Chris Austin
“I have been aware for many years that my need to
make stuff; paintings, prints, plays and now masks is driven by a quest for
answers to the big questions. It‟s been a self indulgent trip. I’ve always
been torn between the visual and performing arts and in masks I find the
perfect creative compromise. Humans have made masks since they first
learned to manipulate their world...a long time. They’ve been used both to
hide and reveal. The burglar uses a mask to disguise himself ; the shaman
to invoke a spirit while the actor dons a mask to entertain. My masks exist
to reveal aspects of the human condition. They are performance quality
and are intended to be “played” rather than hang on a wall staring into the
void. It is in the playing of the mask that it begins to express its truth.
